The rise of Social Media has its advantages and disadvantages. A lot of people found jobs through online ads from Facebook groups and other sources. Even travel itineraries and merchandises like clothes and shoes can be bought and sent just by posting on Facebook. But, there are also disadvantages when using Facebook that’s why you must makes sure not to easily send messages that you would regret or post something there for all of your Facebook friends to see.
1. Home and Work Address
Posting both these addresses can put your life at risk because stalking is rampant on Facebook and you might never know someone is already having interest on you or they want to rob you so they will quickly know where you are or where to find you when you post this kind of information.
2. Current Location
Posting about where you are at the moment puts your life in danger when someone wants to hurt you because they can easily find you. Another thing worth mentioning is thieves finding out where you are means they can easily access your home and steal your valuables.
3. Date of Birth and Phone Number
Revealing your date of birth especially the year you were born and other important numbers is also a no-no. These numbers are put in many of your transactions and IDS so this may either be used against you or used to steal your identity.
4. Layout of Your House
Public posts showing the layout of your house is dangerous because criminal have the chance of familiarizing themselves with the nooks and crannies of your property that they can easily go in and out when doing a crime.
5. Mother’s Maiden Name
Information like this should never come out in the open because there are times when you need to put your mother’s maiden name in important records like in credit card applications, etc.
6. Vacation Plans
This is another way to let thieves know that they can steal your things because you’re away. Unless someone else is in the house and you have a secure house then you might want to postpone your posts after your vacation.
7. Plane Tickets or Boarding Pass Photos
Any information relating to your travels must be kept in private to make sure you’ll be safe and your house safe from thieves. Posting this information on Social Media may also result to identity thefts altering the photos for their own advantage.
8. Relationship Status
Telling the whole Facebook world that you’re single will alert stalkers who are looking for their new victim. This post combined with your post about your location or address is a recipe for disaster.
9. Provocative Photos and Videos
What you do in the bedroom is your own thing but don’t include Social Media because your uploaded photos and videos can be used as pornographic purposes.
10. Information about Your Kids
There was a time when a mother posted a selfie of her daughter on Social Media. Her daughter is really adorable so it got many shares but these shares also got to the wrong person who’s a child trafficker. The good thing is that the child didn’t fall on his hands so the mother was very thankful. Don’t easily post children’s photos because it can be downloaded and used for the wrong purpose.
Using Social Media for gratification is not so bad. Just remember to use it with caution so you can still be safe while using. Don’t just post about important details in your life because you might regret it in the end. Think first before you post.
