Want to learn how you can recover a lost tax identification number (TIN)? Well, here’s a handy guide for you!
First and foremost, you should keep in mind that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) only allows individuals to have one tax ID number. That’s why it is important that you remember your number because you will be using it your entire life. You may save the number on your smartphone or even write it down a notebook or a piece of paper so you won’t lose or forget it.

Just in case you did lose it, there are different ways to recover it namely the following:

1) Call the BIR Hotline.
The easiest solution for you would be to get in touch with the BIR using the hotline 981-888. Simply follow the voice prompt and then press the corresponding number that will lead to verifying your TIN. Be prepared to provide your complete name, date of birth, and home address for this.

2) Visit the BIR Regional District Office
Another alternative for you, if you have the time, would be to go to the BIR Regional District Office. Go straight to the tax payers general services section and ask for your TIN verification. Be sure to bring a valid ID to prove your identity.

How about online verification, you ask?
Although the BIR website has a link for TIN Verification Online but unfortunately, the link is not active at the moment. Let’s hope BIR fixes it soon so everyone can enjoy using a more convenient tool when it comes to TIN verification and recovery.
So if you have your TIN number, do your best to secure it and not lose it. Recovering it can require some work and you can spare yourself the hassle if you will be a bit more careful.
