Is it possible to renew your Philippine passport while you are in Japan? Of course, it is and all you have to do is to meet the requirements and pay the appropriate fees.
If it’s your first time to renew your passport in the country, here are several guidelines you should keep in mind so you can get the job done without much hassle.
Dress Code
First, you should know that passport renewal can only be done by making a personal appearance. When you do so, be sure that you are in proper attire – wearing sleeveless or slippers is not allowed.
Required Documents
To be fully ready, be sure that you have the following documents at hand:
- Duly accomplished passport renewal application form. This can be downloaded from Embassy website or filled up online.
- Photocopy of the passport’s data page (the page with photo) and the last page. Also photocopy of the amendment page, if applicable.
- Letter Pack 500 envelope.
Passport Fee
For the passport fee, prepare to pay the amount of at least ¥7,800. Usually, the fees are payable in US Dollar or its equivalent in Japanese Yen, depending on the cashier’s computation.
Passport Renewal Process
With that in mind, go to the Philippine Embassy Tokyo website and complete the pre-application data. This will allow you to avoid lining up for hours at the embassy since the online tool makes it possible for you to book an appointment for your biometrics and picture taking.
After booking an appointment, go to the Embassy and proceed to Data Verification, Encoding, Biometrics, and Picture taking. Once done, just pay the passport fee.
Your passport will then be released in 1 to 2 months.
