This is a good news for those targeting to get employed at Canada. According to the latest reports, the Canadian federal government has now made it easier for companies to hire highly-skilled foreign workers through fast-tracking work permit applications through a new initiative.
Under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, the “Global Talent Stream” will do the task of identifying qualified in-demand job positions and help companies based in the country to complete the application process in hiring top foreign workers and preparing the labor market benefits analysis.
This program will make it possible for companies that need skilled foreign workers to enjoy a simpler process as long as they can demonstrate that they are “building knowledge in Canada,” said Patty Hajdu, Labor Minister of Canada, in a recent interview with Xinhua.
As an employer’s plan get approval, the work permit application will immediately be processed in 10 days and the qualified foreign worker could be in Canada in at least four weeks.
This, of course, is a big improvement compared to the current process wherein a Canada-based employer may have to wait up to one year when hiring a skilled worker from another country. It can really be time-consuming plus it can somehow affect and delay the growth of a company.
Hajdu shared an example to demonstrate the need to improve the current process.
According to the Labor Minister, Peraso Technologies Inc., a wireless semiconductors designer, once tried to hire a foreign technician who will help them make chips run faster. Unfortunately, the work permit application took to long to complete because of all the red tape and so after 7 months of waiting, the prospective worker took up a different offer instead.
“We’re trying to prevent situations like that,” said Hajdu.
It is expected that the “Global Talent Stream” initiative will be implemented starting June 12.
