One of the main concerns of Rodrigo Duterte, the presumably next President of the Philippines, is to eradicate drugs within 3-6 months. Now, he is asking for a list of drug personalities in the areas of Western Visayas to be issued by PDEA.
PDEA is a government agency tasked to arrest and apprehend those drug violators. They are also mandated to seize and confiscate illegal drugs from individuals caught selling and having it in their possession.
Paul Ledesma, Regional Director of PDEA-6, said that a request was sent to him from a seemingly Duterte’s Cabinet requesting for a list of drug personalities situated in the Philippines. The Western Visayas Region is considered as his first target. It is mainly composed of six provinces namely, Aklan, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras, Antique, and Iloilo.
Furthermore, as a way to curb out the criminality in the country, a nationwide liquor ban is said to be implemented as soon as Duterte takes the seat. Buy and sell of alcoholic beverages are prohibited from 1:00 am until 6:00 am. The liquor ban is currently implemented in Davao City mainly because of work related reason that the next day will be a working day for restaurant staffs and customers.
According to the spokesperson of Duterte, Peter Lavina, this liquor ban has nothing to do with freedom issues because the people are not prohibited to drink at the comfort of their homes. Furthermore, not all were happy about this ordinance. Some businessmen felt that it was unfair and should get reconsidered. But as Duterte assumes the presidency, this ordinance is expected to get implemented throughout the whole Philippines.
