An earthquake can happen at the most unexpected time. It can take away not only properties but also our lives. In this case, it is very much important that we are aware of the places where earthquakes usually happen. To help those people living in places most at risk of earthquake occurrence, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) released a list of Barangays in Metro Manila and nearby provinces that are near the earthquake fault.

The Valley Fault System (VFS) is a collection of large-scale maps which demonstrates the areas that are within or in close proximity to a fault. It is composed of 2 segments: the West Valley fault and the East Valley Fault. The first one is running through Rizal while the other is running through Rizal, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cavite.
The PHIVOLCS has also warned previously about possible impending activity from the West Valley Fault. This movement can possibly generate a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and can kill more than 34,000 people and injure approximately 100,000 people. The east valley Fault, on the other hand, can generate a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
According to a study conducted by the agency in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Geosciences Australia, the cost of rehabilitation will be around Php1.8 to Php2.3 trillion.
The following is the list of barangays in Metro Manila and nearby provinces located near the earthquake fault.
