This article explains the process of using online tools for your ePassport application. If you are a Filipino living in Japan whose area of domicile falls under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, or are seeking to apply a passport for the first time (babies born in Japan, for instance), or are planning to renew a regular passport without discrepancies, then you can take advantage of this free service.
Things You Will Need:
Of course, you will need a computer with access to the internet. Next, you need to use a Javascript-enabled web browser (such as Mozilla Firefox ver.3.5 or Internet Explorer ver.6 or higher).
Along with that, you will need a working email address since you will be receiving messages with file attachments plus a printer and an A4-sized paper.
The Process:
To begin with, go to http://tokyo.philembassy.net/pponline/ and complete the online form by providing all the required details. After that, click the Submit button to submit the form. You will be informed if the submission was a success.
Next, check your email for a new message. Make sure to check not only your inbox but even your Spam/Junk folder as the email might be incorrectly delivered there. Click the confirmation link in the said email.
You will then see the earliest available date with vacant slots for an appointment. If you are available on the indicated date, click ‘YES’ to confirm the appointment schedule. Otherwise, click ‘NO’ or close the window so you can try again next time.
If you clicked ‘YES’, you can check your email for a new email. Print the attached application form and prepare all the requested documents for your personal appearance on your confirmed appointment schedule.
Personal Appearance:
Last but not the least, visit the Consular Section of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on the date and time of your appointment. Again, be sure that you have the required documents and your self-addressed LetterPack 500 envelope. Your photos and biometrics will be taken in the processing room.
You can then expect your passport to be mailed to your address after about 2 months (60 days) since it will come from Manila.
Good luck on your application!
