Having strong family ties is never an easy thing to maintain when one or more family members are working abroad. Being far apart from each other can be difficult. Absence of loved ones can be particularly hard, especially during times when a family encounters some problems together or when they celebrate special occasions. That’s why families that survive and thrive under these situations are truly admirable. In fact, they deserve recognition.
This is the concept behind the Model OFW Family of the Year Awards (MOFYA). This award-giving body aims to honor those that do their best to strengthen their families.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is expected to make an announcement very soon regarding the winners for the Model OFW Family of the Year Awards in ARMM.
Director Amy Crisostomo of OWWA-ARMM confirmed that the awarding ceremonies for the regional search will be held on October 19, 2015, Monday at the Al Nor Hotel and Convention Center.
According to Crisostomo, the nominees underwent a screening which was held last October 9. The screening was done by judges from government agencies, NGO’s, church leaders, program parents, as well as OFW and business sectors.
Two winners will be selected, one for the land-based category and another one for the sea-based category.
Winners will be awarded with cash and other prizes by OWWA along with their program partners. The winners will also have the chance to represent the region for the national MOFYA ceremonies which will be held in Manila later this year.
MOFYA is currently on their 11th year of recognizing OFWs and their families who strive to do their best to enrich their relationships despite of all the typical challenges that come with being employed overseas. The program also aims to honor those who are role models in their communities.
