Spending vacation in the Philippines is always an exciting time for an OFW. Working abroad can be particularly demanding and so having a little break with family and friends is always refreshing.
It is, however, important to prepare for the big day if you want to have a stress-free trip back home. Otherwise, you may encounter several hassles that will get you started on the wrong foot.
Here are some effective OFW vacation tips:
1) Important documents should be accessible.
It’s extremely important that all necessary documents are within easy access. Place your passport, contract, work permit, employment certificate, and other legal papers in a single organizer – not in your luggage. It will help you save some time.
2) Check your luggage weight.
Speaking of your luggage, use a scale and see how much it weighs. You want to make sure that you will not go beyond the allowed limit. Because if you do, you will have to pay extra fees.
3) Inform your loved ones ahead of time.
Give them a heads up and be specific with the details. Inform them about your departure and arrival time and exactly where they will meet you. Arrange for transportation beforehand so you can avoid costly taxi fare.
4) Have a schedule.
Ideally, you should also have a schedule of what activities to do and where to go. This will help you maximize the time you are in the country. You will be able to spend quality time with your family members, see old friends, and go to interesting places if everything has been planned in advance. You will not have any regrets as you go back abroad later on.
5) Have fun!
Relax and find ways to make time meaningful. Treat your spouse to a lovely dinner. Spend one-on-one date nights with your children. Visit a resort, check out a movie, eat your favorite Pinoy foods, and do other fun things to strengthen your family bond. Just be sure to observe limits on your budget though so you can avoid overspending during your vacation.
