We’ve all felt embarrassed when our very own Ninoy Aquino International Airport has been named as one of the worst airports in the world. This was back in the time when trust was at an all-time low because of several passengers have been victimized by “tanim bala” scams in the said airport.
In a wonderful twist of things, however, four Philippine-based airports have been named among the top 30 airports in Asia.
Online travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports recently named Iloilo International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Clark International Airport, and Davao International Airport among their top 30 best airports in Asia for 2016.
Iloilo International Airport ranked in the 12th spot, while Mactan-Cebu International Airport was at 14th, Clark International Airport at 15th, and Davao International Airport was at 26th.
This was the first time that the Davao airport got included on the list. On the other hand, the other three airports moved up from their previous rankings.
“lloilo International Airport is, at the moment, probably the best-looking and most efficient airport in the Philippines,” one of the survey respondents said.
The Iloilo airport managed to top other popular airports in Asia such as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in India (13th), Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand (17th), Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia (20th), Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan (25th), and Kaohsiung International Airport in Taiwan (29th).
The survey rates Asian airports based on various factors such as comfort (rest zones and gate seating), services, facilities and things to do, food options, immigration/security, customer service, and cleanliness.
Meanwhile, the top 10 airports in Asia for 2016, according to the survey, are:
- Singapore Changi
- Seoul Incheon
- Tokyo Haneda
- Taipei Taoyuan
- Osaka Kansai
- Hong Kong International Airport
- Kuala Lumpur
