There was a time when making big bucks while working as a home-based freelancer was unthinkable. Besides, most of us were taught while growing up that our best shot would always be to look for stable, full-time employment.
These days, however, countless individuals are earning a living while staying at home at the same time. With the help of freelance websites such as Freelancer, Outsourcely, and Upwork, people are making decent income from the comfort of their own homes.
Take it from the husband and wife tandem of Dan and Anna – both full-time freelancers.
Anna has been working as an Upwork freelancer for about 8 years when she finally convinced her husband to join her later on. Initially, Dan was hesitant to leave his full-time job as a web developer but he eventually gave it a shot. “She was the one who convinced me that I should give it a try,” he admitted. Dan soon discovered that it is possible to earn as much as Php 80,000 per month even as a freelancer.
Anna, on the other hand, has worked in a variety of jobs including sales, lead generation, a virtual assistant and a customer service representative (CSR). She makes about Php 50,000 a month.
So how does one make big bucks from freelance work? Here are a few tips from Dan and Anna:
Tip #1: Build your profile.
Of course, the first step is for you to build a good profile. As you create accounts on different freelance sites, the first thing that clients will see will be your profile.
“You need to put your skills and your attitude toward work but don’t use too many words. Don’t write your credentials in paragraphs because not everyone likes to read,” said Anna.
Tip #2: Indicate your contact information.
Aside from making a good impression with potential clients through your profile, be sure that you are within easy reach. Indicate your email address or even your mobile number so they can quickly get in touch with you if they want.
As an employer once told Anna: “We’re at the new age. Don’t you have your phone with you to check? If you’re serious with this job, you would have responded quickly.”
Tip #3: Find the right employers.
Research is crucial since not every online work out there is worth it. Look for legitimate employers to avoid getting scammed by unscrupulous people. Use Google so you can find more about companies you are considering. That way, you’ll be able to save yourself from unnecessary hassle.
Tip #4: Apply quickly.
Do not delay if you find a position you are interested in. Remember that competition can be stiff especially in the online world.
“Sometimes the employer would already choose from the first 10 candidates,” reminded Anna.
Tip #5: Do your job well.
As a freelancer, you can take up as many jobs as you want – but make sure that you deliver or you can receive negative consequences out of it.
Anna said “If you can’t do your job properly, an employer can end your contract and give you a low rating.”
She also added, “In the offline world, if you do bad in your previous jobs, no one would know if you don’t put it in your resume. In freelance sites, there are footprints.”
By taking note of these practical tips, you will be able to succeed in the field of freelancing. Like Dan and Anna, just find jobs that best suit your talents and passion and you will gain tremendous rewards in the long run.
