With its recent launching in the Philippines, the new Google Street View app instantly became a big hit among Filipinos.
It also caught the attention of Filipinos living or working outside the country and so they immediately took the time to check out their homes back in their respective hometowns. The technology allows them to view their neighborhoods up close or even browse some popular destinations around the Philippines.
Users appreciated the fact that they can see the streets and houses in the country without having to spend expensive airfare. Some have even felt sentimental about it, clearly missing their families and friends back home.
According to the reports, the Philippines is the 69th country to be added to Google Street View which mainly aims to boost tourism through the innovative use of panoramic images.
Sarangani Representative and Pinoy boxing champ Manny Pacquiao said he is happy for the technology since it helps showcase their province to a worldwide audience in a beautiful way. In his speech, he thanked the Google team “for adding value to our society. Google’s contribution to our nation is commendable.”
On the other hand, Google Philippines Marketing Manager Ryan Morales added “With Street View, people can virtually walk the streets of a city and preview destinations like restaurants and hotels before they even get there. For those of us whose families are abroad, they can check out the street where they grew up or revisit the church where they got baptized or married.”
Along with Google Maps and Google Earth, Google Street View aims to provide users with fantastic views of different streets across the world. The application was launched in 2007 in several key cities in the United States and has since continually added more locations from across the world.
The images are taken by cars deployed by Google for the purpose. These vehicles are equipped with special cameras that allow panoramic shots wherever they drive by.
